Engineering Internship – Hybrid and Solar

Position and missions
The proposed internship consists of evaluating the synergies between photovoltaics and hydroelectric power plants. Indeed, there is a strong complementarity between these two sources of renewable energy. The PV field can be installed on the water tank in floating mode or near it and use the same infrastructure to evacuate energy to the grid. Hydro-solar hybridization makes it possible to optimize solar and hydro production at different time scales depending on the desired application: 1) smoothing of PV production during the day, 2) shift of PV production towards evening peak thanks to daytime water saving (energy storage at no additional cost), 3) PV and Hydro complementarity between the dry season and the rainy season.
The objective of this internship is to define and qualify the different possible hybridization scenarios with high added value.
After a detailed analysis of the existing literature on this subject and the identification of the key players, you will have to define the most relevant hybridization scenarios to study according to technical criteria to be defined (type of hydro plant, size, etc.). You will have to develop a preliminary sizing tool to demonstrate the real added value of this hybridization according to the scenarios and different operating modes selected.
Ultimately, our objective is to develop a turnkey hydro-solar offer (PV installation + control system of the hybrid power plant) to our customers allowing optimized operation of a 100% renewable hybrid power plant.
Profile sought and skills
Currently in the last year of engineering school with a specialization in Energy / Electricity / Renewable Energies, you are autonomous, rigorous and organized, you appreciate teamwork and are comfortable with computer tools. This internship requires fluency in English, especially for the bibliographic part to be completed at the beginning of the internship.
You are passionate about renewable energies, technological innovation and the prospect of contributing to the development of technical solutions that respect the environment.
Your dynamism and your desire to learn will allow you to be involved in different subjects, thus allowing you to acquire real experience within a motivated team.
The internship is based at the company's headquarters in Marseille within the Solar & Hybrid design office. It is to be filled from March 2021.
